Izmir Mediterranean Biennial
Located on the western coast of Turkey, Izmir is one of the important port cities in the Eastern Mediterranean, along the historical Silk Road route. With the advantages of its climate and geographical location, the city has hosted different civilizations and cultures throughout its 8,500-year history. Izmir has a rich culture stemming from its cosmopolitan structure.
Today, with a population of approximately 4.5 million, Izmir hosts many festivals and international events in the field of art and ecology. It also stands out in the field of gastronomy with its fertile nature and diverse culture. Izmir’s open structure to interaction and democratic dialogue, developed in the context of all these features, creates an environment suitable for sharing in contemporary art.
The Izmir Mediterranean Biennial is organized within the scope of the works carried out by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in line with the vision of “Izmir, the center of attraction of the Mediterranean”, for the city to play a leading role in the formation of a Mediterranean cultural network.
