9th Çanakkale Biennial

Let Time Run Its Course

The 9th Çanakkale Biennial, set to meet art enthusiasts at various venues in Çanakkale between October 4 and November 11, 2024, will focus on the concepts of “youth, technology, and tradition” under the theme “Let Time Run Its Course.”

Bringing together artists and art initiatives from Turkey and around the world in each edition, the Çanakkale Biennial is designed with an approach that prioritizes youth participation, interaction, and communication—not only in the city center but also in venues across Assos, Küçükkuyu, and the Troas region.

The poster design, which highlights the biennial’s theme, typographically explores temporal relativity—the idea that time progresses more slowly when left to its natural flow. By visually representing the way moments pause, flow at different speeds, and deviate from a “normal” progression when we “let time run its course,” the poster deforms and elongates the words of the theme as they are read. This creates a composition that slows down, shifts, adapts to its own pace, and eventually returns to its normal rhythm. In doing so, it reflects the wisdom in relinquishing control—trusting that, in time, things will fall into place.

Additionally, the poster features a leaf image with a figurative function. It serves both as a metaphor for the passage of time and as a “specimen” observed in a blue-turquoise color spectrum, detached from nature. This leaf, along with the typographic distortions, provides a rich visual arsenal for all other visual elements of the biennial.
